As Joseph Pilates has named; pilates is a “contrology” method, which helps the body and mind to work together in a collective manner. It should not be understood as a physical activity but rather a method that joins, breathing techniques, balancing, and arranging movements in a physical activity. Pilates helps to stretch the muscles  to protect the joints and bones, as well as providing the spine to work and make to use better, and especially making all the muscle groups work from inside out.

Joseph Pilates

Joseph Pilates (1880.1967) He was born in Duesseldorf Germany. He had a poor health as a boy and had to fight with asthma, rheumatism and rachitizm. In his young age he started to do many physical activities gymnastics, body building, skiing and strengthen his body in order to cope with his physical problems.
In 1912 he moved to the UK and worked as a circus acrobat, boxer and instructedself protection techniques to British detectives.

He was detained in the UK and declared as a racist, and taken to a camp. He worked as a nurse in the camp and started teaching fitness and exercise programs to the patients and unhealthy people in the camp , that he had developed. In 1918 when most people were dying in a flu epidemic in UK in the camp there hasn’t been any sickness and therefore Pilates and his techniques got popular. After the war Pilates continued his Works in Germany and trained police forces. In 1926 he moved to the USA and opened the studio which is running at the moment in NYC. Pilates method fixing physical disorders and became a part for ballet dancers and dancers.
